The SM768GB – AB is a graphics processing unit IC designed by Silicon Motion. Here is a detailed description of its functions5:
- Display Output: It supports a variety of output interfaces, including HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA, LVDS, and digital interfaces, and can output high – definition images up to 4K UHD (3840×2160@30p) or full – HD (1920×1080@60p). It provides dual – display channels with display modes such as extended desktop single – view and dual – view, clone, and portrait/landscape mode.
- Graphic Acceleration: It is equipped with a 128 – bit graphics engine that accelerates graphic display, including front – end color – space conversion and back – end YUV color – space scaling conversion. It also supports HW cursor, video overlay, and alpha blending, which can improve the quality and fluency of graphic display.
- Video Decoding: The chip supports hardware video decoding of H.264, MPEG – 2/4, MJPEG, etc., which can efficiently decode video data and reduce the burden on the CPU.
- System Interface: It can be connected to the host through a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed device interface or a PCIe 2.0 interface, adapting to different application scenarios, such as USB monitors, thin/zero clients, signage, and embedded displays.
- Peripheral Connectivity: It has an integrated 4 – port USB 2.0 host and peripheral device hub, which can be connected to peripherals such as keyboards, mice, networks, and storage devices. In addition, it supports I2S audio, dual – I2C, and SPI, and provides general – purpose IOs such as GPIO, UART, and JTAG.
- Other Features: The chip is built – in with Content Adaptive Technology (CAT), which accelerates USB display through adaptive compression algorithms. It also supports InstantView technology, allowing users of the docking station equipped with this chip to use it through the USB interface of laptops and Android phones without downloading drivers, achieving plug – and – play.
